- The EOS RP – Here’s Everything You Need to Know
-
Sitting at a seriously attractive entry level price point, this innovative model makes stepping up to our revolutionary mirrorless camera system more accessible than ever.
Here, with full details on all the essential technical specs and key features, is everything you need to know about the powerful EOS RP.
Don’t let the compact form factor fool you, under the bonnet the EOS RP is packing a Canon-developed 26.2 megapixel full frame CMOS sensor.
Full frame sensors deliver superior image quality compared to smaller APS-C sensors and eliminate the crop factor, allowing you to make full use of wide-angle lenses. This is particularly important if you want to create dynamic landscape and travel images, and is indispensable in low-light scenarios.
The EOS RP also delivers outstanding detail in both highlights and shadows, as well as Canon’s inimitable colour science.
The EOS RP is equipped with DiG!C 8, our most powerful imaging processor. This is paired with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which is our fastest and most advanced autofocusing technology to date. The result is an extremely versatile camera capable of lightning fast precision and focusing when shooting still images, and buttery smooth focus tracking when shooting movies.
With up to 4779 selectable autofocus point positions, the EOS RP gives you exceptional control and accuracy when selecting different focus points. It also boasts our new Eye Detect AF, which automatically locks on to subjects’ eyes and tracks their movement for pin sharp portraits.

3" vari-angle touch LCD screen
The rear of the EOS RP boasts a high resolution 3" LCD screen delivering fast and intuitive touch control over all functions. The vari-angle design also allows you to fully rotate the screen and shoot from creative new angles. This function is perfect for astrophotography, for example, when the camera needs to be pointed directly to the sky, or for those challenging moments when shooting in tight spaces. What’s more, you can flip the screen all the way around to see yourself while vlogging or taking high quality self portraits.
The EOS RP’s screen features an intuitive touch autofocusing system, making it ultra fast when locking focus on subjects. It also allows you to rapidly review images and videos in playback mode, as well navigate through menus with just a few taps on the screen. Once you finish your shoot, the screen can be swivelled fully closed for protection.

2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) with touch and drag AF
The EOS RP’s high resolution and ultra responsive EVF makes transitioning from DSLR to mirrorless an absolute pleasure. Enjoy a fully-immersive shooting experience and benefit from real time exposure previews in even the brightest and darkest of lighting conditions.
You can also use the LCD screen’s touch and drag function to select autofocus points and effortlessly track moving subjects while shooting through the viewfinder. With the EOS RP you never need to take your eye off the action or worry about missing important shots.
Huge Capability in a Compact Package
Weighing in at just 440g (body only), the EOS RP is more than 20% lighter than the original EOS R and 35% lighter than the EOS 6D Mark II. This makes the EOS RP the perfect camera to carry with you at all times and ensure you capture all of the most important parts of your life and travels.
Despite its compact size, the EOS RP feels great in the hands, with a solid and comfortable grip that delivers quick and intuitive access to all controls. If you find you need a little more size, a range of optional extension grips are also available in three stylish colours to make your EOS RP even more comfortable, while still allowing for quick and easy access to the battery and SD card compartment.
The EOS RP is fully compatible with the range of RF lenses. Delivering superlative optical performance, these ultra dynamic lenses have been designed specifically for the EOS R series of mirrorless cameras to offer unprecedented image quality.
The RF lenses feature a fully customisable Lens Control Ring, which opens up a world of creative new ways to shoot and allows for intuitive control over aperture, shutter speed, ISO or exposure compensation.
There is also a range of EF-EOS R lens adapters that make it possible to pair any EF or EF-S lens with the EOS RP camera with zero loss of quality or autofocus speed. This means you can continue using all of your current Canon lenses in new and exciting ways.
The current range of EOS R lenses includes:
Create 4K Movies and Time-lapses

The EOS RP also boasts a built in 4K time-lapse movie mode, making it easier than ever to create impressive time-lapses in camera without the need for timely post-processing.
