What is a Hood?
The Basics:
A hood is an accessory attached to the front of a lens to block stray light from entering at an angle, creating unwanted lens flares on the final image. Beyond their ability to reduce flaring, the use of lens hoods also helps to prevent scratches on the lens glass, for example when putting your camera down.
