Be Strong. Be Resilient. Be successful.
Delivering new innovations for long-term success
The Salvation Army has a proud, longstanding history as a Church in New Zealand. Every year, the organisation assists 150,000 people through provision of financial support, food, clothing, and education assistance.
Achieving this mission is a remarkable accomplishment, particularly considering they have offices nationwide, including in rural and remote locations. This emphasised the critical requirement for operational changes to sustain continued growth and success.
The Salvation Army encountered substantial technical challenges due to outdated printing equipment. These challenges led to device delays and downtimes, negatively impacting workflows and productivity nationwide. Given the size of the organisation, The Salvation Army urgently needed to upgrade to the latest technology and partner with a print supplier who could understand its needs and facilitate a smooth transition.
In 2022, Canon began a relationship with The Salvation Army. From the beginning, we demonstrated a willingness to help by conducting a thorough assessment of the print environment, identifying substantial opportunities for improvement. In 2023, Canon was awarded the contract and enthusiastically implemented key features in a customised solution to enhance The Salvation Army's print environment nationwide.
Canon modernised The Salvation Army's capabilities for printing and scanning. We implemented the latest A4 and A3 multifunction devices from the imageRUNNER Advanced DX and imageCLASS Series. Canon also introduced uniFLOW Online, our exclusive print management software. These solutions aimed to create more efficient, secure, and streamlined workflows.
Keypoint Intelligence, the leading independent print and imaging industry authority, praises Canon's hardware and software offerings through its BLI and Line of the Year Awards. To date, we’ve won 5 out of the 7 prestigious Line of the Year Awards (2016-2022). Keypoint Intelligence highlights Canon devices for their durability and reliability, which we knew was essential for The Salvation Army’s print environment and peace of mind. This solution, adapted to The Salvation Army's specific requirements, allowed for more straightforward workflow implementation and strategic planning.
In addition to optimising The Salvation Army's print output, Canon offered access to our national Print Hub, a service which provides outsourced printing with preferential pricing for our customers. The Print Hub portal for The Salvation Army's staff was white labelled, giving a personalised company experience, as welll as skilled technical staff to provide support for all print needs.
With uniFLOW Online, The Salvation Army was able to easily access comprehensive reporting for its entire fleet of over 340 devices across 216 metro, rural, and remote locations. This enabled its IT team to monitor print usage and costs while reducing wastage. The availability of over 60 pre-defined and customisable reports made it simpler for The Salvation Army to oversee its print environment and make necessary adjustments for users, devices in the fleet, and departments.
“From the start, it felt like a partnership. They genuinely wanted to understand our business and how our systems function.”
Gina Marshall, End User Compute Product Owner at The Salvation Army
Secure Follow-Me Print has expanded The Salvation Army’s printing capabilities, enabling users within the organisation to print documents securely from anywhere on their network. This has improved workflow efficiency across departments and regions, providing significant flexibility and functionality. Print jobs are only released once the user is identified, preventing unauthorised access and misuse of the devices.
The Salvation Army aimed to upgrade its printing and scanning environment by moving it to the cloud, hence eliminating the need for physical servers. By using uniFLOW Online which is hosted on Microsoft Azure's public cloud, the organisation has gained significant time savings by implementing a common cloud printing solution, eliminating the need for specific printer configurations. This efficiency benefits both employees and the service desk, reducing troubleshooting time and enhancing overall productivity.
