Can you believe it’s almost 2025? That means it's time to highlight the most stunning images from our Canon Community in 2024!

This year, our community truly pushed the limits of creativity and skill. From jaw-dropping landscapes that captured the essence of wild beauty, to breathtaking shots of the night sky, we’ve seen a remarkable range of work. Whether it was fast-paced sports action, digital art that connected reality with imagination, or everyone's favourites; animal photos, the talent shared within our community was inspiring.

As always, the stories behind these images are as powerful as the visuals themselves, and we're so excited to share them with you.

‘Lake Pukaki in Spring'

“Captured during the fleeting bloom of lupin season in New Zealand. Took me a few mornings to line up a clear sky over Aoraki Mt Cook that reflects a similar tone to the warm pink of the lupins. In order to really showcase the scale of Mt Cook in the background, the image was shot at a longer focal length to compress the image and then focus stacked in post to retain sharpness throughout.”

Lights out and away we go 🏁 Incredible shots of @landonorris and @maxverstappen1 at the #F1 #SingaporeGP 👌🏎️

“There is a bus shelter which has a reflective surface that shows up really well at night when the cars drive by. This took heaps of attempts due to such a slow shutter speed.”

Ride into the danger zone ✈️ A ‘1 in a million’

“I’d been trying to get a photograph with some of the smaller planes with the moon all day but had no luck, however when the F18 came out I was solely focused on just getting a solid photo of it as they move very quickly and can be difficult to capture. You can imagine my reaction that night when I was looking through my photos and found this crazy photograph”⁣

When patience meets perseverance, magic happens! ✨

Here’s Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS soaring over the Blue Mountains with the Milky Way shining brightly above. 🌌 The comet’s glowing tail, the dust trails of the galaxy, and even the rare zodiacal light on the left made this night unforgettable. The reddish-violet glow? That’s airglow—a stunning phenomenon lighting up the upper atmosphere. With the distant lights of Oberon and Bathurst twinkling on the horizon, this shot was a blend of cosmic wonder and dedication. 🌠 Couldn’t be happier to finally capture this after weeks of cloudy nights!

Filmmaker and Photographer, Michael Haluwana is the first international photographer to capture the final voyage of the Virgin Galactic Unity Spacecraft (@virgingalactic)!

This historic 7th mission marked the end of an era in space exploration and scientific research. As the Unity’s final voyage, it closed a remarkable chapter in space history, pioneering research in the field of space exploration.

“Capturing high-end professional photography and videography of this historic mission was crucial to serve as an invaluable historical record, preserving the visual legacy of Virgin Galactic’s pioneering efforts in space exploration. Undergoing G-Force training and pulling 5G’s on the flight was a challenging yet exhilarating part of this journey. Even now, it’s surreal to reflect on flying so close to the spacecraft while it completed its mission. High-quality images and videos provide not only scientific documentation but also inspire and educate future generations, immortalising the milestones achieved and highlighting the technological advancements and human ingenuity that made these missions possible.”

‘One Tree Hill Light’

“A very simple shot, taken with a 2-second timer. I just had to wait patiently for the sun to sneak through the clouds and light up my subject which only lasted around 45 seconds.”

Halloween Tales 🎃✨ Spooky season meets creativity! Captured and transformed by @alesseslens using @canonanz cameras and @photoshop magic – bringing Halloween to life in every shot!

Capture: I prefer a mix of natural and artificial light, often shooting near a window for soft light enhanced with softboxes if needed. For settings, I use Canon’s portrait and Aperture Priority (Av) modes, with a wide aperture (f/1.8 to f/4) for background blur, and ISO starting at 100–200, adjusting up to 400 as needed. To get the best results, I take multiple shots, avoid harsh overhead lighting, and use a reflector to brighten faces.

Editing: In Adobe Photoshop, I combine shots to capture the best expressions and create a flawless final image. I also use Photoshop’s tools to adjust lighting, enhance colors, and add a touch of Halloween magic, bringing each shot to life in a way that feels both spooky and fun.
